DFG Grant for Mohsen Jenadeleh
January 8, 2026; Christina Warren

Congratulations to Mohsen Jenadeleh, postdoctoral researcher in our completed project A05 “ Image/Video Quality Assessment: From Test Databases to Similarity-Aware and Perceptual Dynamic Metrics”. The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved three years of funding for his new project “Fine-Grained Assessment and Modeling of the Visual Quality of Highly Compressed Images”.

The new project will expand on Mohsen’s research conducted within the framework of his previous DFG project “JND-based Perceptual Video Quality Analysis and Modeling”. One of the key results of this previous project has been a substantial contribution to the development of the new international standard ISO/IEC DIS 29170-3:2025, which is currently at the Approved Draft International Standard (DIS) stage.

The newly approved DFG project is designed as an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary effort, involving close collaboration between academia, industry, and standardization bodies. The project includes planned collaborations with at least 11 national researchers from academia and industry in Germany, as well as 8 international researchers from 6 countries.
