Research Stays Abroad

Doctoral researchers are expected to stay at a university or other research institution abroad for a couple of months (typically three). The research stay is organized with the help of the supervisors. The research group hosting the research visit is usually chosen based on personal contacts of the supervisors or other members of the SFB-TRR 161. The costs for the research stays are compensated by funds of the SFB-TRR 161, which is available to all doctoral researchers in the graduate school.

Short-Term Fellowships

Incoming doctoral researchers from abroad can benefit from short-term fellowships (12 months maximum each, typically 4–6 months). These fellowships can help support international early career researchers to conduct limited-term research, thus enriching the internationalization of the SFB-TRR 161. After their fellowship these researchers from abroad may apply to a full-length doctoral employment as research personnel associated with one of the projects of the SFB-TRR 161; in this sense, the short-term fellowships serve as support for the initial training and selection phase. The following documents are requested from the applicants for the short-term fellowships:

  • Research proposal (2 pages)
  • Transcript starting with the courses for bachelor degree
  • Support and reference letter from the supervisor
  • CV and publication list
  • Language certificate (e.g., TOEFL)

Please send your application via email to sfbtrr161-manager@visus.uni-stuttgart.de.
