Last Tuesday, Prof. Dieter Fritsch, former Rector of the University and former Director of the Institute for Photogrammetry, as well as Prof. Thomas Ertl and Prof. Daniel Weiskopf from the Visualization Research Center of the University of Stuttgart received a group of 25 engineers from HEXAGON Manufacturing Intelligence, a leading company for manufacturing solutions. The SFB-TRR 161 principal investigators presented their current research activities in the field of Visual Computing and discussed their plans and visions for the future.

First of all, Prof. Ertl spoke about visualization and showed different live demonstrations at the high resolution VISUS Powerwall. Afterwards, Prof. Fritsch led his guests through virtual Calw - a town located in the Northern Black Forest. With the presented application, the user can walk through the streets of Calw and simultaneously see how the city looked like in the past. Finally, Prof. Daniel Weiskopf talked about the visions of the transregional research center (SFB-TRR) 161 and presented an outlook on future developments in the matter of quantification. Afterwards, discussions showed that the guests were very interested in the research activities and impressed by the shown developments.
